Button Ups – Sleeves = The New Spring Blouse

I love that button ups are back in style! I might have gone a little overboard at the Goodwill though.

If you’re going to go the short sleeve route, instead of taking the sleeves off entirely, I’m going to give you a little tip. When you hem up the sleeve it might end up looking a little too pointy (unless that’s what you’re going for! I’m not one to judge). To remedy this, follow this quick tutorial:

Step 1: After hemming the sleeve, pinch the sleeve until the armhole opening is as small as you want it. Make sure the excess material is on the inside of the armhole. Sew a few temporary stitches to hold in place.

Step 2: Flatten the excess material.

Step 3: Sew it flat over the existing hem. Take out the temporary stitches.

See? Nice fitted sleeves!

Button Ups! Great for shopping with besties!

Aaaand just for fun and the sake of embarrassment, here we are 15 years prior. Dang! Look at us rockin that blue camo and matching background.

  2. I tried this with one of my shirts (I cut the whole sleeve off), but now the shirt hangs weirdly around the boob/armpit area. In the middle before/after photo, with the black and white striped top, it looks like you tailored that area. Can you explain how you did that?
